Spring Deck Maintenance Checklist

Spring Cleaning

• Remove Debris: Clear away any leaves, twigs, and other debris that accumulated over the winter. This debris can trap moisture against the deck material and lead to wood rot and decay.
• Wash Your Deck: Use an appropriate cleaner for your deck type and gently scrub the surface clean. Avoid power washing if it's not recommended for your deck material as it can damage the surface.

Inspect Your Deck

• Check for Damage: Begin with a detailed inspection of your deck. Look for signs of wood rot, especially in areas close to the ground or water sources, and around nails and screws. Ensure all connections to the house are secure and intact.
• Examine Deck Supports and Railings: Make sure that the under-deck supports, steps, and railings are solid and not loose. These are critical for safety and must be able to handle weight and movement.

Repair And Restore

• Replacing Damaged Areas: You will want to replace any cracked, warped, or rotten boards as well as tighten any loose screws or replace any that are rusted.
